Employee Spotlight: Martin CarrilloWhat lies ahead in 2021? How does AtScale generate awareness around common challenges that can be solved in minutes? Here on the blog, Cort Johnson shares how AtScale is making waves within the data and analytics space through market education.
What is your role at AtScale?
A: My name is Cort Johnson and I am the VP of Growth at AtScale. My job is to grow the marketing and sales programs that result in conversations with folks at companies who are looking for ways to overcome data and analytics challenges with AtScale’s help.
How long have you been at the company?
A: I have been with the company for a little over two years now.
What does a typical “day in the life” look like for you?
A: My focus is working with our sales and marketing organizations to measure, evaluate and improve our go-to-market initiatives. I spend time across the entirety of our go-to market experience. At the beginning of the experience our marketing team focuses on boiling down the value we create for our customers. That work results in identifying themes we use to help others in the market learn about ways they too can overcome similar data and analytics challenges. Those themes serve as a foundation for the educational content and enablement we create. As folks raise their hand to learn more about how to overcome their specific data and analytics challenges, my work shifts to our sales team. My goal is to make sure our sales team is both enabled with the right content to help educate our prospects and customers as well as are trained to advise our prospects on the various options they have to achieve their business outcomes.
Prior to AtScale, you have co-founded various companies such as Komand, Hack Secure, and Terrible Labs. Can you tell us more about those experiences you’ve had throughout your professional journey?
A: I’ve been fortunate to have the opportunity to work with really great people. I never really set out to start a company. I just always found myself around really smart and driven folks who found some significant challenges in cybersecurity, analytics, and software development that they felt could be solved with a unique product or service. Those experiences helped me gain an interesting perspective on how different enterprises run, the challenges that they’re trying to overcome, and how to help customers succeed within their organization.
What makes AtScale and our solution unique?
A: It’s about making data-analysis ready. Analysis-ready data makes it faster and easier for companies to calculate key business metrics they use to make economic impacting business decisions. Predictive and reporting analysis is bottlenecked by IT and the work that has to happen to aggregate and prepare data from across many sources. AtScale makes it really easy to blend data across various sources without having to engage IT and make it analysis-ready in popular AI/ML or BI tools.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
A: Staying focused. There is so much opportunity to take on, which is always exciting but can distract from the main priorities of our customers and prospects.
The most rewarding?
A: The most rewarding part of the work we do is when we help a customer overcome their problem, both on a professional and personal level. There’s nothing better than seeing the product we provide delight the people we work with.
Describe AtScale in three words.
A: Thoughtful, Driven, Customer-Centric.
Can you tell us what customers should expect from us in 2021?
A: I think 2021 is going to be super exciting from AtScale, specifically around the accessibility of the product and the ease with which our customers can drive their reporting outcomes from siloed data across their organization without having to export data into spreadsheets or getting IT involved.
When you’re not working, where are people most likely to find you?
A: Today, it’s mostly with my two kids because they’re so young that they require attention at all minutes and hours of the day. While they’re napping on Sunday’s, I’m usually in front of the TV cheering for the Bills to hopefully find a way to win a Superbowl.
