INTEGRATIONS / DATA PLATFORMS AND BI TOOLS
AtScale integrations: Your data platforms and BI tools, one set of metrics.
AtScale computes each metric where your data already lives and serves the same answer to every BI tool, spreadsheet and notebook your teams use.
AtScale sits between your data platforms and the tools people use to analyze data. ACE, the AI Computation Engine, sends SQL to the platform and computes the metric there, so your data doesn’t move. Power BI, Excel, Tableau, Looker and Python all read the same definitions, and AI assistants and agents connect through the AtScale MCP server.
What it does
Connects to the cloud data platforms you already run and computes metrics in place.
Serves Power BI and Excel over XMLA, and Tableau, Looker and other SQL tools over a PostgreSQL interface.
Gives data scientists the same metrics in Python through AI-Link.
Why it matters
A metric means the same thing in every tool, so a dashboard, a spreadsheet and an agent report the same number.
You can change data platforms or add a BI tool without rebuilding your metrics.
HOW IT CONNECTS
Analysis tools on top, your data platforms underneath.
DATA PLATFORMS
ACE computes on the platform where your data lives.
ACE turns each metric request into SQL for your platform and runs it there. It also builds aggregates from the questions people ask, so repeat questions cost less to answer.
| Data platform | How AtScale works with it |
|---|---|
| Snowflake | Computes metrics in your Snowflake account |
| Databricks | Computes metrics on Databricks SQL |
| Google BigQuery | Computes metrics in BigQuery |
| Amazon Redshift | Computes metrics in Redshift |
| PostgreSQL | Computes metrics in PostgreSQL 14 |
| InterSystems IRIS | Computes metrics in InterSystems IRIS |
Self-hosted AtScale installations also support Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Cloudera CDP and IBM Db2. Check the supported platforms list for versions.
BI TOOLS AND SPREADSHEETS
Every BI tool reads the same metric definitions.
Power BI and Excel connect live over XMLA, so analysts keep their PivotTables and reports while AtScale computes the numbers. Tableau, Looker and other SQL tools connect through AtScale’s PostgreSQL interface.
| Tool | How it connects |
|---|---|
| Microsoft Power BI | Live connection over XMLA, with DAX |
| Microsoft Excel | PivotTables over XMLA |
| Tableau | SQL through the PostgreSQL JDBC or ODBC driver |
| Looker | SQL through the PostgreSQL connector |
| Google Sheets | The AtScale Connector add-on |
| Python notebooks | AI-Link, installed with pip install atscale |
| Other SQL clients | JDBC or ODBC |
MicroStrategy support is in beta, and Qlik support is experimental. The connection support guide lists the sign-in options for each tool.
AI ASSISTANTS AND AGENTS
AI tools use the same metrics over MCP.
Claude, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Grok and agents you build yourself connect through the AtScale MCP server. They request a metric by name, and ACE computes it the same way it does for Power BI.
| AI tool | How it connects |
|---|---|
| Anthropic Claude | A custom connector pointed at your AtScale MCP endpoint |
| OpenAI ChatGPT | An app connector in ChatGPT settings |
| Google Gemini Enterprise | An MCP connection in Gemini Enterprise |
| Google Gemini CLI | An MCP server entry in the Gemini CLI |
| Grok Build | The AtScale MCP server added to Grok Build’s MCP configuration |
| Databricks agents | The AtScale MCP listing in Databricks Marketplace, for the AI Playground or a multi-agent supervisor |
| Agents you build | Any framework or client that supports remote MCP servers |
FAQ
Questions about AtScale integrations.
Which data platforms does AtScale support?
Snowflake, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, PostgreSQL and InterSystems IRIS. Self-hosted AtScale also supports Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Cloudera CDP and IBM Db2. ACE computes on each platform, so your data doesn’t move.
Does my data move?
No. ACE (the AI Computation Engine) sends SQL to your data platform and computes the result there.
Can I use more than one data platform?
Yes. One AtScale deployment can connect to several platforms, and your metric definitions stay the same if you move data from one platform to another.
Which BI tools work with AtScale?
Power BI and Excel connect live over XMLA, Tableau and Looker use AtScale’s PostgreSQL interface, Google Sheets uses the AtScale Connector add-on and Python uses AI-Link. MicroStrategy is in beta, and Qlik is experimental.
Is Power BI a live connection or an import?
A live connection over XMLA. Power BI sends DAX, and ACE computes the answer on your data platform.
Which AI tools can connect?
Claude, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Grok Build, Databricks agents and any client or framework that supports remote MCP servers. They connect through the AtScale MCP server, request a metric by name and get the same number Power BI shows.
Does AtScale work with our data catalog?
Yes. AtScale supports Alation and Collibra, and AtScale Semantic Modeling can read your catalog’s descriptions when it drafts a model.
Where does the semantic model live?
In your Git repository as SML. AtScale works with GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps and Bitbucket.
How do people sign in?
Through Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Active Directory (Kerberos). Access rules follow each user into every tool.
How can we deploy AtScale?
On Kubernetes in your own cloud, from the Google Cloud Marketplace, as a Snowflake Native App, or as the Developer Edition on Docker for evaluation.
