AtScale’s pricing model is consumption-based, meaning you pay for what you use.
We bill for the semantic objects that are deployed for consumption in an end-user’s consumption tool and we meter those objects monthly. We call this billing metric “deployed semantic objects” (DSO).
We do not charge for users, queries or data sizes. Encourage as many users as possible to query the largest datasets that you have through the semantic model you build in AtScale.

A deployed semantic object (DSO) is a fundamental data element, such as a metric (metrics such as sales revenue, profit, count, average, or any other calculation that provides insight into business performance) or a dimensional attribute (such as the levels of: time, geography, product type, or customer demographics, and are used to filter, group, or drill down into data), that is made available for analysis in a user’s analytics application within a single month. These objects are only considered "deployed" when they are visible to end users in their consumption tools like Tableau, Power BI, Excel, or Looker, allowing them to be queried and used in reports.
Is it a DSO?
- Any modeled dimension --> Yes
- A dimension with multiple hierarchies --> All levels and attributes visible in the BI tool are counted
- A dimension with an additional dimension referenced within it --> All levels and attributes visible in the BI tool are counted
- Degenerate dimensions --> Yes, if visible in the BI tool
- Measures --> Yes, if visible in the BI tool
- Calculated Measures --> Yes, if visible in the BI tool
- Calculated Columns --> No
- Fact Tables --> No
AtScale meters the number of DSOs in the customer’s environment on a monthly basis. This monthly total is subtracted from the total DSOs purchased by the customer across the entire subscription term.
For example:
A customer’s order form shows that they purchased 3,000 DSOs per year for 3 years. At the end of Month 1, they have 100 DSOs in their environment. At the end of Month 2, they have 150 DSOs in their environment. In this case, they have consumed 250 of 9,000 DSOs.

Every plan has unlimited users.
DSOs consumed beyond your commitment will be invoiced monthly. The price per additional DSO is based on the plan and pricing tier of your commitment and will not be eligible for volume discounts.

Volume based discounting is built into the AtScale pricing model. This means that the more objects a customer commits to consuming during the term of their contract, the cheaper the price per DSO. We have customers that consume in the low hundreds of DSO per month up to the tens and hundreds of thousands. Customers who are only consuming in the low hundreds of DSO per month pay more on a price-per-object basis than our customers who are consuming in the tens to hundreds of thousands of deployed semantic objects.
